The concomitant use of vildagliptin and metformin hydrochloride combines two antihyperglycaemic agents with different working mechanisms to improve glycaemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Vildagliptin is a selective dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor and metformin is a biguanide.
